I’ve signed up for The Compass, thanks for the recommendation. I can very much relate to your argument that we may be selecting for just one personality type (although I’d extend it to include another - the on-the-spectrum-off-the-charts technologist with an empathy deficit disorder operating from the position of “we may have to destroy the world in order to save it”. It isn’t easy being a tech investor while trying to garner other investor support for startups led by people other than these two archetypes.
I love this Lauren, it speaks to wrestle I have on a regular basis. I don't resonate with the typical 'startup type'. I'm trying to find a pace and style of working that is optimal for me. I know I don't produce my best work when I'm working crazy hours or focused on hyper-optimisation. My intuition is loudest when I have some space for creativity and flow. The hardest part is that I'm my biggest whip-cracker. Giving myself permission to write my own playbook is the current challenge!
Wow I feel like you picked out some latent thoughts from my brain and articulated them well - about not trying to emulate others blindly, optimising for you, etc.
It’s our 4th year of development of the initial idea of ‘Pattern Catcher’ and our first year as a start up. Your words are supportive and affirming. I’ve learnt to deeply trust deliberate contemplation as a source of feedback and learning coupled with an attuned alignment between what our audience needs and our own authentic response to that need. Thank you. 🙏
